03. Can you help me with customs clearance?

Multilines International Rwanda Ltd has a Rwanda Revenue Authority License for Customs Clearing Agency services. Our vast experience in the field, good working relationship with the customs authorities and stakeholders, the technical expertise and an in- depth knowledge of the tariff codes and customs territorial regulations puts us in a very prime position as a Clearing Agency in Rwanda and in the region. 04. Who are we?

Multilines International Rwanda Ltd is a registered and licensed customs clearing Agency, cargo freight and transport logistics company. It was registered in Rwanda in 2009 and work in unison with our regional branches in Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan and DRC as well as our strategic international network partners.

01. How do I get started shipping freight?

For a one-time quotation, you can send us an email. If you have other questions on Incoterms, the documentation required to move your freight or on packaging, please get in touch with us on email.
02. How do you calculate the chargeable weight of a shipment?

The chargeable weight of your shipment is either its gross weight (the combined weight of your goods and their complete packaging, including pallets) or its volumetric weight – whichever is greater.
03. Do you ship dangerous goods?

04. How much does it cost to ship freight?

The cost will depend on the origin country, destination country, how much the shipment weighs and how quickly you want it to arrive.
05. Can I track my cargo?

We have a 24⁄7 track and trace service and is complemented by automated notifications. This means you’ll be alerted of any shipment status changes as soon as it happens.
06. How do I calculate the volumetric weight of my shipment?

Measure your shipment in centimeters or inches. Multiply the length x width x height. This will give you the volume. Divide the volume by the density ratio of your shipping mode/6000 in Rwanda.
07. Are there restrictions to what type of freight I can ship into a country?

Especially for import, some goods will be subject to government regulations and require licenses. It is best to research import regulations prior to contracting any shipping.
08. Does my international freight shipment need to go through customs?

Before it is loaded onto its containership and after unloading at its destination port, your shipment must go through customs. Whether you are the shipper or the consignee, you will most likely be responsible for the import or the export customs clearance and the payment of duties (also referred to as “tariffs”) for your shipment. Depending on the selected Incoterms®, you may even need to take care of both. It is best to your responsibilities for customs clearance with your overseas partner prior to shipping.
09. How do I know the cost of duties for my freight shipment?

The amount you need to pay depends on the nature of your cargo. The smooth handling of your customs activities starts with a precise description of the goods you are shipping. This is achieved through an internationally standardized commodity code, the Harmonized System (HS) Code, which will ensure that the correct duties and taxes are applied by Customs. It is defined by the World Customs Organization (WCO), and is available publicly.
10. Will there be any costs at destination to consider?

There are always destination costs for shipments. The costs, however, vary from port to port and shipment to shipment. Some of the more common destination surcharges include release fees, terminal handling charges, and other delivery charges if your shipment is door-to-door.
11. What kind of additional charges could I risk running into with my shipment?

There are many elements that can go into the overall price of your shipment. These depend on seasonality, commodity, destination, and other factors beyond your control. Surcharges such as the General Rate Increase (GRI) and Emergency Bunker Surcharge (EBS) can be announced at the last minute and be applicable to your shipment.
12. Are you licensed and bonded? Making sure your freight forwarder is lice

Making sure your freight forwarder is licensed and bonded should be the first step in deciding whether to work with them. We as a licensed freight forwarder we are required to follow regulations set by the licensing body, which can mean fair rules, standards, and prices. This also ensures you have support and a channel for complaints if you feel you’ve been mistreated. We provide customers with protection and can reimburse them in the event the freight forwarder suffers financial losses.
13. Do I have to pack and prepare my own cargo?

Yes, we offer packing services.
14. If I need to ship by a certain date or need cargo to arrive by a certain date, what are my best options?

If you have urgent cargo, let us know immediately so we can plan for it. Keep in mind that getting your cargo onto the first-available sail date and vessel as that may sometimes mean higher prices. Sometimes, it may be worth it to pay a little bit more to get a faster transit or a direct service for better reliability. Some shippers prefer to get their cargo to destination as soon as possible, while others prefer a more affordable option. Make sure to let us know what your priorities are.
